Former NAHS Asst. Principal Arrested for Leading Police on Foot Chase

The former assistant principal for North Augusta High School was arrested early Saturday morning after leaving an Aiken bar to head home to an unattended child.

According to the report, the officer observed Charles Gregory make an improper turn on Whiskey Road. When he turned around, Gregory quickly pulled into the parking lot at McDonalds and exited the car.

The officer watched as Gregory made his way back the way he had come on foot. When the blue lights came on, Gregory bent down to remove his shoes then took off into the parking lot of Millbrook Baptist Church.

The officer yelled at him to stop, but Gregory only redoubled his shoeless speed and ran into the nearby cemetery. He tripped over a fence, recovered, then climbed over another fence, falling yet again. Still being pursued, Gregory dashed onto East Pine Log Road and, you guessed it, fell again.

At this time, the deputy was able to end the brief chase with a set of handcuffs. On the way to the station, Gregory admitted that what he did was “stupid” but that he just got nervous, the report stated.

Gregory also admitted to leaving his 6-year-old daughter at home alone and requested that his mother be contacted so she could go take care of her. Now wasn’t that thoughtful?

Gregory was charged with failure to obey a lawful officer and improper lane change.

A woman answering phones at the school says Gregory resigned after school ended a few weeks ago, before this incident occurred. She said they have not updated their website.

    2. Nothing unfortunate about it. — He’s a great person, a former principal of mine and always tried his best to go above and beyond for his students.

  3. Innocent until proven guilty, two sides to every story plus the truth. Great guy that appears to be getting a bum rap from the shady press of the "$1 holla" paper and post!!

  5. What is his problem? How can he be an administrator handling discipline at NAHS when he is an immature example himself!! I'm disappointed in his behavior.

  6. He was one of my more favorite teachers in high school, and still is. We all do things in life that makes no since to the onlooker, but makes perfect since to us. So if your going to judge what he did, look in the mirror first.

  9. No need to judge! Mr. Gregory is a great person. His whole reason for running was because of his daughter. I watched him take care of his little girl. So what he drinks like any other person, tonight he just happened to be in a more difficult situation! I say let him go.

  10. He running b/c of his daughter? Seriously, first off you have no business leaving your 6 year old daughter home alone to go have a couple of beers! 2nd if he's such a good person he should know wrong from right, I'm not saying he a bad person b/c I don't know him personally & everybody makes mistakes but what I do know is he's in the wrong regardless...when you see blue & red lights behind you it means STOP...I'm pretty sure that the officer had great reason 2 stop Mr.Gregory based on all the training they have 2 go through...Everyone believes the cops are out to get s/o but when in reality they just trying 2 make it a safer place for you & your kids...so I salute the officer who stopped this man...& your"re right innocent until proven guilty but remember patrol cars do have video..Good Police Work!!

  11. Damn, Mr. Gregory, looks like you had a bad day. Don't worry about it.... $hit happens, life goes on. You'll get over it. Pi$$ on NAHS and this rag that printed this story.

  12. A valuable lesson has been learned here. The fact that he has been splattered all over the "rags" and given a spot in the newspaper should be enough.
However, local sensationalism might sway the possibilities of a meaningful career. This would be a devastating shame, and I hope that the "powers that be" presiding over his future job take all the factors into consideration and not make this a witch hunt. This is a man who clearly made bad decisions to possibly cover up other bad decisions. I can pretty much guarantee you that the lesson has harshfully been learned. Why take away his opportunity to positively influence so many young lives. Get a life people! Just because you were not caught does not make you any better. Do not be so judgemental, and sentationalize the mistakes of other people. Only the person who has never made a dumb mistake in their lives should cast the first stone.
