Drag Racing in Richmond County

Richmond County authorities arrested a man over the weekend for drag racing.

Johnny English, 34, was busted Saturday on a long list of charges that include laying drag, reckless driving, unlawful use of nitrous oxide in vehicle, driving with improper windshield and wipers and suspended vehicle registration.

In drag racing, nitrous oxide (often referred to as just "nitrous" or as NOS after the name of the brand Nitrous Oxide Systems) allows the engine to burn more fuel and air, resulting in a more powerful combustion. The gas itself is not flammable, but it delivers more oxygen than atmospheric air by breaking down at elevated temperatures.

According to Georgia law, "It shall be unlawful for any person on a public road to drive a passenger car, excluding a motor home, which supplies the motor vehicle's combustion engine with nitrous oxide unless the system supplying nitrous oxide is made inoperative by disconnecting the line feeding nitrous oxide to the engine or by removing the container or containers of nitrous oxide from the vehicle."

  2. There are so many cars running around with nitrous....the windshield ticket is because he had a purge line for the nitrous exiting out one of the wasker spouts. This is a common thing for street racers to do. Trumped up charges....all this is.

  6. Amazing how many of you will come on here and defend each other's stupidity. Oh must have forgotten, unless you are out on the road endangering yourself and the lives of other motorists by racing on public roads, then you have nothing to live for. How about this, if you get your kicks as an adult by racing on public roads, then you should look into getting a life. Grow up please. I'll pray for you.

  8. True, no one is on the roads at 3 am. Well, except for 3rd shift plant workers, waffle house waitresses, families on overnight trips, EMTs, road workers, cab drivers. So yeah, I'm going to have to ask you guys to stop racing on public roads. MMmmmm k?

  9. Well let me clear something up for everyone on this board...it was about 6 oclock in the afternoon in rush hour traffic on Gordon Hwy. And when he was blue lighted he took off and was driving in triple digits endangering numerous lives (possibly someone that you love). And the windshield ticket was for the broken windshield not a purge valve so check your facts...how do i know...i wrote the ticket
