Augusta Man Charged in Weekend Rape

An Augusta man has been charged with raping a woman over the weekend.

Anthony Googe, 36,
is charged with rape and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The victim, a 21-year-old Grovetown woman, told authorities that she left a friend’s house on Maple Street at 5 a.m. Sunday and was walking toward her home because she couldn’t find anyone who was sober to take her home. She said a man named Anthony stopped and offered her a ride.

During the ride, the man stopped by his home on Lionel Street and invited her inside. Once inside, the man pulled out a silver handgun and ordered her to strip, a report states. The woman says the suspect began taking nude pictures of her with his cell phone and then raped her on his bed while she continuously objected.

When the man walked out of his bedroom, she emptied four bullets from his gun and put them in her purse. Then, the man returned and offered to take her home. He drove her to Krystal’s on Wrightsboro Road, gave her $20 and ordered her out of the car, a report states.

The woman called authorities, and Mr. Googe was subsequently identified and arrested.
