Murder at Salem Arms Apartments


Lt. Scott Peebles issued this press release this morning:

Last night at 9:03 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at Salem Arms Apartments, 2243 Rosier Road. Upon arrival, officers found that 19 year old Darryl Lamar Walden of Shilo St. in Augusta had a gunshot wound to the chest. Walden was taken to MCG E.R. where he died early this morning from the injury.

The investigation reveals that Walden was standing outside of an apartment when a male approached and the two had a conversation. Witnesses stated that the men appeared to know each other. During the conversation, the men began to fight, at which point the suspect produced a handgun and shot Walden. The suspect then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a B/M, light to medium complexion, close cut hair, 16 to 19 years of age, 5-06 to 5-08, 130 to 150 pounds. The suspect was wearing a white in color shirt, which was recovered at the scene.

At this time, motive is not known. This is Richmond County’s 17th murder this year. There were 16 murders this time last year with the 17th occurring on August 21st. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1080 or the tip line at 866-939-5050.
