Babysitter Charged in Child's Death

A Martinez woman was charged with murder following the death of a 22-month-old girl she was babysitting.

Lowanda Tripp, 39, was charged after an autopsy revealed the girl died of blunt force trauma to the head, according to Capt. Steve Morris with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a CPR in progress call at 1410 Avery Landing in Martinez. When they arrived, the girl was not breathing and a deputy performed CPR until EMTs arrived.

The child, identified as Teaira Michele Hall, was transported to Doctor’s Hospital and later to MCG where she was pronounced dead by Coroner Vernon Collins. An autopsy was performed in Atlanta on Monday and preliminary findings indicate blunt force trauma to the victim's head.

Ms. Tripp, of 1504 Avery Landing, Martinez, was arrested and charged with murder. No bond has been set.

  1. It said the baby died from blunt trauma to the head. Authorities did not say that SHE did it. Now I see how the media really works. The news media can spin things to keep your attention. I hope that those of you that are assuming guilt will at least continue to watch how this turns out. Unfortunately the bad babysitter makes a better news story.

  3. If they arrested her and chargd her with murder then they had probable cause. Its illegal to arrest someone with out proof. All I can say is, I have a 6 month old and I feel for the childs parents and I cant believe anyone could ever hirt a child. SICK PEOPLE!

  4. I think you should get a job and get educated. Sometimes it can take days for the symptoms of brain swelling to become apparent. The parents could have easily done it. Hopefully the forensics can give a better timeline on it.

  5. And Jesus called a little child to Him,
set him in the midst of them, and said,
"Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and
become as little children, you will by no means
    enter the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child
is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one little child
like this in My name receives Me.

But whoever causes one of these little ones
who believe in Me to sin,
it would be better for him
if a millstone were hung around his neck,
and he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
