Grandma Beats Grandson with Vacuum Cord

An 8-year-old Augusta boy fled his grandmother's home Saturday after he was beaten with a vacuum cord, and authorities have arrested the grandmother after she confessed that "I may have taken it too far."

Janice Easterling, 51, is accused of beating her grandson and causing cuts to the boy's legs that required a trip to the Medical College of Georgia hospital.

Authorities found out about the abuse when the boy ran away from his grandmother's Augusta residence on Valley Spring Road about 8 p.m. Saturday. He ended up several streets over from his house, where he knocked on an apartment door and asked for help. He told responding deputies that he ran away from home because his grandmother had beaten him hard with the power cord to a vacuum cleaner. The boy said he had the marks to prove it.

When the grandmother was taken to see the boy's injuries, she told deputies, "I may have taken it too far," according to a sheriff's report. While the boy went to the hospital, Ms. Easterling was charged with one count of felony cruelty to children and taken to jail.

You may be wondering where the boy's parents were. The report doesn't address it.

  1. I DON'T KNOW WHERE HIS FATHER IS, BUT HIS MOTHER DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO. MY MOTHERS DOOR IS THE STRANGERS DOOR HE KNOCKED ON. A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER THIS HAPPENED, THE POLICE CALLED MY MOTHER AND ASKED HER IF SHE HAD HEARD FROM THE LITTLE BOY. APPARENTLY, HE HAD RUN AWAY AGAIN, AFTER DEFACS RETURNED HIM BACK TO HIS ABUSIVE GRANDMOTHER. NOW WHATS UP WITH THAT? HOPE YOU FIND A SAFE PLACE TO LAY YOUR HEAD LITTLE MAN, GOD BLESS YOU.

  2. The childs mother passed away more that a year ago. He is ADHD with other mental health problems. The grandmother has been raising him and his 2 sibling since their mothers death. She is obiously overwhelmed. Knowing this family from past experience, I am not surprized that the grandmother snapped. Please realize that there is always three sides to every story. Her side, his side, and the truth. Corpal punishment is never the answer, however, counseling and therapy is something that needs to be addressed with this family. DFCS usually places a child back in the home when the abuser is no longer there. Presently, the grandmother is still incarcerated and waiting for her hearing. The grandchildren miss her dearly. My prayers go out to her and her family.

  3. Um... his mother died after being poison. The grandson is a psychopath like his mother. I'm the child's uncle... he's been kicked out of many schools and has exchanged many foster parents.

I've no idea who these commenters are on this blog, but they are far from the truth... nothing more than gossip.

Well, not my problem... whatever floats your boats.
